The Discovery Centre is still a very young and struggling museum that needs the publics support in order to achieve the goals of our mandate, we are working with our community to help attain sustainable growth within our community. We are growing stronger every year and look forward to stronger years to come.
We have had some great stories about us in several magazines in 2014 and have started to have a really strong following, there is one woman here in town that every time someone visits her and they haven't seen the grain elevators before she brings them down for a tour. There have been people from across the globe and from different backgrounds that come and look in awe at these "Prairie Skyscrapers".
We have a great deal of history and information to offer our patrons/visitors. not only the grain elevators but also the heritage of our community, the trials and tribulations of our farmers, the development of southern Alberta, how grain is used, and what parts of the plants are used in which industry.
Roofing Project - We are presently replacing the roof on the Annex this fall (2014), how ever we are still about $8,000 dollars shy of doing the coal shed roof and that would complete the roofing for the orange elevator.
Please Give Generously!
Windows and Doors - This is a newly developed project that we have no choice in facing, and that is the window frames are rotting, and we need to replace them, as well we would like to make our building more environmentally friendly with cost effective windows and doors.
Find out how "YOU" can help!
Annex Project - We are working through the process right now to have this building Available, right now we will be using this space as a workshop, and work towards making this building ready to the public.
There is more then one way to help!
Windows and Doors Project
We are progressing with the Annex roof, Supplies are ordered and should be here by the end of this month. the weather is still good enough to start the work and I hope that we can complete the Annex portion by the time the snow falls.
Don't be impatient we aren't even there yet!
We are just kicking this project off, and we are collecting information and finding out what our costs would be. There is a definite need for us to replace our windows and doors and we are working toward some community involvement through corporations and individuals.
We're getting there!
We discovered that there is a fair amount of prep to have the Annex ready for public use, so for now while we get the building on order we are going to use the space as a workshop.
We have a great many steps to take to make this happen
