Historic Places Days

  • Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre 2119-19th Ave, P.O. Box 1402 Nanton, Alberta Canada (map)

This summer we invite you to time travel by visiting historic places across Canada. Hundreds of sites are waiting to be discovered!

This year’s theme, Communication Through Place and Time, invites us to explore how people have shared ideas, stories, skills and knowledge across generations—and how historic places have made those connections possible. From oral traditions, crafts, and handwritten letters to telegraphs, telephones, and digital media, places have always been at the heart of how we communicate.

The theme also marks the 150th anniversary of the first telephone call, patented in Canada by Alexander Graham Bell, an invention that transformed how distance and time shape human connection.

Together, these stories remind us that historic places are not just where history happened, but where conversations – past, present, and future – continue to unfold.
